What Is Subtraction?

In math, to subtract means to take away from a group or a number of things.

When we subtract; the number of things in the group reduce or become less.

The minuend, subtrahend, and difference are part of a subtraction problem.

In the subtraction problem, 7-3=4.

The number 7 is the minuend, the number 3 is the subtrahend and the number 4 is the difference.

Here's another example of a subtraction problem.

  • Fun Fact:-

  • Subtraction is just the opposite of addition.
  • Also, every addition problem can be rewritten as a subtraction problem.

  1. Subtraction is the inverse operation to addition.
  2. Subtraction finds the difference between two numbers.
  3.  The minuend minus the subtrahend; D = M - S.
  4.  Subtraction is neither Commutative nor Associative.

For Positive Arguments M and S holds:

  •  If the minuend is larger than the subtrahend, the difference D is positive.
  • If the Minuend is smaller than the subtrahend, the difference D is negative
