Multiplication, one of the four basic operations of arithmetic, gives the result of combing groups of equals sizes.
Here each group has 3 Ice creams, and there are two such groups. So, there are 2 times 3 or 3+3 or 6 ice creams in total.
"In other words, Multiplication is repeated addition of numbers."
Multiplication is represented by the sign cross "✖", Asterisk"*" or dot '.'.
When we multiply two numbers, the answer we get is called 'Product'. The number of objects in each group is called "Multiplication", and the number of such equal group is called "Multiplier".
For Example:-
3×7 = 7+7+7 = 21
5×6 = 6+6+6+6+6+6 = 30
Multiplication Using Number line:-
Representing a multiplication statement on a number line can be done by taking jumps the multiplier number of times of size equivalent to the multiplicand from zero.
For Example:-
4*2 = 8
Properties of Multiplication:-
- Commutative property:- When we multiply two numbers the order doesn't matter. For number 'a' and 'b'.
a×b= b×a
- Associative property:- For a number a,b and c.
(a×b)×c = a×(b×c)
- Distributive property:- For a number a,b and c.
